Bhí Ríocht na Mí féin ann ón luath-ré stairiúil ar a laghad. D'fhéadfadh é gur den Dál Messin Corb a tháinig na ríthe, agus a rítheaghlach 'sacu, Uí Garrchon, ina Ríthe na Laighean. Óna 400idí ar aghaidh ámh, cuireadh an ruaig orthu as a dtír dúchais i dtuaisceart na Laighean agus thar Sléibhte Chill Mhantáin ag Uí Néill.
