Of these, the grey wolf (Canis lupus) is regionally extinct; the black rat (Rattus rattus) was assessed as vulnerable; Leisler's bat (Nyctalus leisleri), the otter (Lutra lutra), and the red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) were assessed as near threatened; Brandt's bat (Myotis brandtii) was data deficient; and the remaining 20 were of least concern.[1]

The order Cetacea includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises. They are the mammals most fully adapted to aquatic life with a spindle-shaped nearly hairless body, protected by a thick layer of blubber, and forelimbs and tail modified to provide propulsion underwater.
