Not strictly true. While the two games are VERY similar, it is by no means proven that Aussie rules comes out of Gaelic football. Some people think it was influenced by an Aboriginal game as well called Marn Grook.
However, it CAN be proven that Aussie rules WAS influenced by cricket (in the shape of the field) and rugby, since the founding father of the game was Tom Wills, who attended rugby school.
