Rí Chineál Loairn is dócha agus Rí Dhál Riada b'fhéidir ba ea Fearchar Fada (Sean-Ghaeilge Ferchar Fota) (bás c. 697). Feareadhach mac Fearghasa ba ea a athair. Deirtear go raibh sé sa séú glúin ó Loarn mac Eirc.

Fearchar is first reported in the Annála Tiarnaigh in 678, when he led the Cenél Loairn to defeat on Tiriodh against "the Britons", presumably those of Alt Clut.^[1] The battle is also reported by the Annála Uladh, but Ferchar is not named.^[2] The second report of Ferchar is that of his death in 697.^[3]

Fearchar may have been king of Dál Riata from the 670s — the Duan Albanach assigns him a reign of 21 years — or he may have become king of Dál Riata only on the death of Domhnall Donn in 696.
