Páirtí polaitíochta i bPoblacht na hÉireann is ea Fine Gael. Tá sé ar an dara páirtí is mó i rialtas na hÉireann: tá seisir airí sinsearacha acu as cúigear déag, agus tá ceannaire an pháirtí, Leo Varadkar, ina Thaoiseach i láthair na huaire. Fuair an páirtí 20.9% de na vótaí céad-rogha agus 35 suíochán Dála in Olltoghchán 2020, á chur ar an tríú páirtí is mó sa Dáil.

De réir mar a maíonn an páirtí féin, tá timpeall ar 30,000 duine ina mbaill d'Fhine Gael.[1] Inniu, dearctar go ginearálta ar Fhine Gael mar cheann de na páirtithe is faide ar an eite dheis de na páirtithe a bhfuil ionadaíocht acu i nDáil Éireann ó thaobh na heacnamaíochta de, agus iad ag tacú go mór le cánacha ísle agus polasaithe a thacaíonn leis na gnólachtaí.[2] Ar cheisteanna sóisialta, meastar go bhfuil Fine Gael níos liobrálaí ná príomhpháirtí traidisiúnta eile na hÉireann, Fianna Fáil, ach níos coimeádaí ná an chuid is mó de pháirtithe eite chlé na hÉireann.[2] Tacaíonn an páirtí go láidir le ballraíocht na hÉireann san Aontas Eorpach, agus é ag cur in aghaidh Phoblachtánachas na láimhe láidre go tréan.

Tá siad ina mball de Pháirtí Eorpach an Phobail i bParlaimint na hEorpa, agus is iad na páirtithe Críost-daonlathacha, a bhíonn go ginearálta sa ghrúpa seo chomh maith, na páirtithe is cosúla le Fine Gael i mór-roinn na hEorpa.

Téann stair Fhine Gael siar go dtí laethanta an Chogaidh Chathartha. Ach níor tháinig an páirtí ar an bhfód roimh an mbliain 1933, nuair a tháinig an Lár-Pháirtí Náisiúnta, Cumann na nGaedheal agus an Garda Náisiúnta (nó "Na Léinte Gorma" tráth dá raibh) le chéile.

Polasaí i dtaobh na Gaeilge

Bhí baint áirithe ag Fine Gael leis an Language Freedom Movement nuair a bhí an ghluaiseacht sin ag cur in aghaidh na "Gaeilge éigeantaí" sna 1960idí/1970idí, rud a tharraing míchlú áirithe frith-Ghaeilgeoireachta ar an bpáirtí ag an am.

In Earrach na bliana 2006, d'éiligh Éanna Ó Cionnaith, ceannaire an pháirtí, go maolófaí ar stádas na Gaeilge sna scoileanna. Is í an chiall a bhain gluaiseacht na Gaeilge as an gcineál sin cainte ná gurbh é seandúchas an pháirtí ó laethanta an LFM a tháinig chun solais arís.

Leanadh den pholasaí seo go dtí an bhliain 2011, ainneoin gan tacaíocht aon fhianaise a bheith ag an impleachtaí an pholasaí dar leo. Mar sin féin is beag cainte a rinneadh faoi tar éis allagar an toghcháin agus tuigeadh go raibh Páirtí an Lucht Oibre tar éis cur ina choinne mar pholasaí.

Dhearbhaigh an Roinn dúinn go bhfuil an foireann curtha ar an eolas faoin dualgas atá orthu faoin Acht agus go háirithe an dualgas maidir le cumarsáid i nGaeilge a fhreagairt sa teanga oifigiúil céanna.

Tá sé i gceist againn an comhad seo a dhúnadh ó tharla leithscéal a bheith gafa ag an Roinn agus socruithe a bheith curtha i bhfeidhm le teacht roimh botúin den chinéal seo sa todhchaí.

Ar mhiste libh cúnamh dlí a thabhairt dom a dhéanamh mionnscríbhinní? . . . bhí mé i mo chónaí sa Phortaingéil ar an 17/07/2015 nuair a thosaigh mé ag iarraidh ar cúnamh dlíthe Éireannacha. [35]

I apply to the putative Republic of Ireland for legal aids since 17/07/2015.3 On 15/11/2024 – nine years later! – an Irish Human so-called Rights and so-called Equality Commission wrote a self-contradictory refusal to grant me a legal aid in a mixture of English and broken Irish[36]
