English: Sir Thomas Pope (c. 1507 - 1559), founder of Trinity College, Oxford. Born at Deddington, Oxfordshire. Showing his coat of arms: Per pale or and azure, on a chevron between three griffin's heads erased four fleurs-de-lis all counter-changed (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.814 "Pope of Wilcote, Wroxton and Deddington, Oxfordshire"), grant of arms 26 June 1535 (History of Parliament biography[1]), which became the arms of Trinity College, Oxford. He wears a livery collar of a mermaid holding a mirror.
