Abstract:
Side 1: White poster with the top two-thirds showing a representation of the American flag in the background with an ice hockey player (Christopher Dulman), swimmer (Nancy Hogshead), and basketball player (Dominique Wilkins) superimposed on it. These three young people competed in their sports and won medals, tournaments, etc., even though they had asthma. The poster encourages young people to talk to their doctor, coach, school nurse, and parents about the possibilities of becoming involved in sports despite their asthma. The logos for the public agencies and small portraits of the three athletes are at the bottom of the poster. Side 2: White poster with the information laid out so it can be folded to form a booklet. The information includes: signs of asthma; organizations dealing with asthma and contact information; a diagram and written explanation of what the lungs look like before and after an asthma attack; and an explanation of what asthma is, how it can be controlled, and how school personnel can be of help.
