English: Levels of War – German Blitzkrieg, 1940. In this evolution of the levels of war, blitzkrieg entailed a distinct overlapping of strategy and tactics by operational activity. Continuous coordination among commanders at the three levels permitted the achievement of multiplied effects of mobile air-land operations. While instantaneous communications resulted in the opportunity to exploit unanticipated battlefield success, the progressive extension of the battlefield through track and aviation systems also reduced the time for decisionmaking and accelerated the rate at which units move and events occur in war.
