English: Anascaul: South Pole Inn This pub was owned by Tom Crean, a native of Anascaul, who led an extraordinary life as an Antarctic explorer on three of the four major British expeditions there during the early part of the 20th century. He was a tried and trusted member of both the ill-fated Scott and Shackleton expeditions, but survived them all to eventually return to Anascaul.
